Code of Conduct

At Niagara Top Team, we are committed to building a respectful, inclusive, and safe training environment for everyone. This code reflects our mission to empower individuals through world-class martial arts, supportive coaching, and a team-first culture rooted in discipline, confidence, and growth.

GENERAL ETIQUETTE & BEHAVIOR

  • Show respect to coaches, teammates, and guests—on and off the mats.

  • No foul language or aggressive behavior is tolerated in the academy.

  • Keep conversation to a minimum and relevant to the class; no talking during instruction unless asking a question.

  • If you arrive late, wait at the edge of the mat until the instructor invites you to join.

  • Always follow instructor guidance and remain coachable and courteous.

CLEANLINESS & HYGIENE

  • Trim nails before class to prevent injury.

  • Remove all makeup, jewelry, and piercings prior to training.

  • Make sure your feet are clean before stepping onto the mats.

  • Wash your hands after using the restroom.

  • If you borrow equipment, clean and disinfect it before returning.

  • Do not enter the equipment room unless accompanied by an NTT staff member.

GEAR & MAT POLICY

  • No shoes, food, gum, or drinks are allowed on the mats at any time. Wrestling and boxing shoes are permitted during those classes only.

  • No outside shoes past designated areas.

  • All training bags and gear should be kept in the change rooms. If space is limited, place your belongings in a way that keeps walkways and mat areas clear—ensure others can move safely throughout the gym.

SPARRING & SAFETY

  • Your partner’s safety comes first. Train with control and respect during drills and sparring.

  • Communicate with your partner and coach—tap early, tap often, and stop immediately if your partner taps.

  • Sparring is for growth, not ego. Always aim for technical improvement, not domination.

  • Do not train if you’re feeling unwell or have any contagious skin conditions (e.g. ringworm, staph).

  • Notify a coach immediately if you are injured during class.

PARENTS & SPECTATORS

  • We welcome parents in our space—your support means everything.

  • However, please refrain from coaching or instructing your child or other students during class.

  • Trust our professional staff to guide your child’s development with care, structure, and encouragement.

  • Always be respectful of students, staff, and other families in the academy.

By following this Code of Conduct, we can all contribute to a positive, team-first culture where everyone feels welcome, safe, and inspired to grow. Thank you for being part of the Niagara Top Team community.
